Nuu-chah-nulth Ha'wiih tell DFO to leave the territory until they are re...

There are 196 First Nations in this place called by some 'British Columbia', 'Canada'.  Most people on First Nations territories are treatless.  Even under olde tyme British law, most everybody not invited are trespassers.   THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THE WHITE GUYS HAVE IS THAT THEY DO NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THEY DO NOT CONTROL THE AGENDA, THE LAND, THE TERRITORIES AND WATERS.  If you want to have a successful negotiation you will need to start with the recognition of all of that.  To be a zero sum negotiation, they (the white guys) all need to give you all of their keys.  Too what?  Too everything!  Now, honest negotiations can start.

After seven years of meetings, the Nuu-chah-nulth hereditary chiefs say they are fed up with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and its failure to implement their commercial fishing rights as proven in court, coming to the negotiations table without a mandate, year after year, meeting after meeting. Today, Sept. 23, the chiefs told DFO, led by the Regional Director General, to leave the territory until they are serious about good faith negotiations

On Aug. 3, 2016, the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council's Family and Child Services department, Usma, took the children in their care who are connected to Hesquiaht First Nations' families, to their home of Hesquiaht. They left Port Alberni in the early morning and travelled to Tofino, an hour and a half away to the west coast. They loaded into water taxis and travelled another two and a half hours over choppy seas to Hesquiaht to meet their relatives and have a day on their traditional territory, to connect to family, share a meal, and explore the territory. The children were greeted by Ha'wilth (hereditary chief) Steve Tom, and songs of welcome. Debora Steel of Ha-Shilth-Sa video.
